Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of the KnowSoda app and this website (the “App”), published by Basalt Works, Tarragona, Spain (“Basalt Works”, “we”, “us”). By downloading or using the App you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Who can use KnowSoda

KnowSoda is a general-audience app for people aged 13 and older. These terms do not create an age-verification system.

2. Licence

We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the App for personal, non-commercial learning on devices you own or control. You agree not to:

• copy, extract, republish or sell the App’s cards, stories, illustrations or other content;
• modify, reverse engineer or decompile the App, except where the law allows it;
• attempt unauthorized access to the App or the backup service, or interfere with them;
• use bots or automation, or abuse purchases, rewarded ads or support channels;
• use the App for anything unlawful.

3. Learning content

We check every card carefully, but KnowSoda is for general learning and curiosity. Facts can be simplified, differ between sources or change over time, and nothing in the App is professional, medical, legal or financial advice. If you spot a mistake, use the report button on the card or write to hello@knowsoda.com.

4. Your progress and optional account

Your progress is stored on your device. If you do not back it up, clearing the App’s data, uninstalling it or losing your device can erase it for good.

An account is optional and only used to back up and restore your progress. You are responsible for the Google or Apple account you sign in with. Restoring a backup replaces the progress on the device with the backed-up progress. You can ask us to delete your account and backup at any time, as described in the Privacy Policy.

5. KnowSoda Pro and rewarded ads

KnowSoda Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription sold through the App Store or Google Play. The store shows the price and terms before you pay. The subscription renews automatically at the price shown in the store until you cancel it in your store account settings at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; after cancelling, Pro stays active until the paid period ends. You can restore Pro on another device signed in to the same store account.

Billing, cancellations and refunds are handled under the rules of the store where you bought. If a purchase is refunded, its benefits end. Prices may vary by region and may include taxes.

Free users can choose to watch rewarded ads for more cards. Rewards are only granted through the reward flow in the App.

Streaks, levels, medals, titles, outfits and other progress in the App have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for money.

6. Intellectual property

The App’s code, branding, Soda, the cards and the original illustrations are the property of Basalt Works or used with permission. Story pictures are based on public-domain works, and the fonts are used under the SIL Open Font License; credits are listed in the App. “KnowSoda” and its logo are trademarks of Basalt Works. Feedback and suggestions you send may be used to improve the App without any obligation to you.

7. Availability and changes to the App

The App works offline, but the backup service, purchases and rewarded ads depend on network and third-party providers and may sometimes be unavailable. Content and features may change as KnowSoda is maintained. If we ever close the backup service, we will announce it in the App with reasonable notice so you can keep your progress on your device.

8. Suspension and termination

You can stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. If you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, we may, in proportion to the breach, suspend or close your account. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive.

9. Warranty and liability

The App is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that every piece of content is complete and accurate, and Basalt Works is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including loss of progress that was not backed up. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or 100 euros if that is higher. None of this limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your mandatory rights as a consumer.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by Spanish law. We will first try to resolve any dispute in good faith; if that fails, it will be heard by the competent courts under Spanish law. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you keep the mandatory protections of the law of your country of residence and can bring a claim in its courts.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will publish them on this page with a new date and announce material changes in the App before they apply. Continuing to use the App afterwards means you accept the updated terms.

12. Severability

If a court finds any part of these terms invalid, the rest stays in force.
