How it works
Each axis is a real question in philosophy, with a position at each end. Your answers place you on every one of them, and your profile is compared with the documented views of each philosopher, taken from the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy and their own books.
Where an axis matches a question of the 2020 PhilPapers Survey, which asked 1,785 philosophy professors what they think, you also see how many of them stand where you do.
It's a way to explore ideas, not a scientific instrument: a high match means your answers are close to a philosopher's documented views, not that you share all of them.
Sources. Philosophers' positions: the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy and their own works. Professional philosophers: the 2020 PhilPapers Survey by David Bourget and David Chalmers.
